			Surfing Mexico Basics Mexico is a great and diverse country to surf in. The climate in most parts is quite dry and hot througout October to May, with rainy periods and even hotter weather from June to September, when the swell is substantially bigger. Mexico has a tropical and temperate climate depending on altitude, winds and cool Pacific Ocean currents. A tropical climate is experienced along the coastal region of the Yucatan Peninsula and the lower areas of southern Mexico while a temperate climate is experienced in areas with an elevation higher than 900 metres (3,000 feet). Most of Mexico is dry with about 14% of the land area receiving adequate rainfall in all seasons. During summer and autumn both the east and west coasts are subject to hurricanes. Average temperature ranges in Mexico City are from 6 to 19 degrees Celsius (43 to 66 degrees Fahrenheit) in January to 12 to 26 degrees Celsius (54 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit) in May. Mexico can be surfed all year round and gets consistent surf. It has over 6000 miles of coastline with over 1500 miles on the mainland Pacific. April to October is the main season and with nice weather, warm water temperatures and good waves you would not ask for anything more. Waves are generated all year round by the deep Southern Ocean low pressure systems and more localised tropical storms, June to October being hurricane season. A great place for a surf trip is the southern tip of Baja California - the place is a swell magnet and it is totally lacking crowds.There is a large variety of waves to suit everyone from beginner to the most experienced surfer. Other waves to check out are Puerto Escondido - one of the best beachbreaks in the world - and waves around the Oaxaca region in the south.
